A woman who is here to care

In 2009 she became involved with Mondeor Precinct CPF and her passion to assist the community has never faltered.

MICHELLE Pelser, chairman of Mondeor Precinct Community Policing Forum and vice chairman of Johannesburg Central Cluster, leads a busy life. She is married to Leon and they have two daughters, Christie (26) and Nicole (19).

Michelle began work as a sales representative for Irvin and Johnson after matriculating and was then poached by Lusitania Seafoods, to work in telesales, after that on the road as a rep. She was there from 1991 until 2005, when she opened her own business, a florist and homebake, Dilly Lilly, so named after her grandmother. Dilly Lilly was situated in the Glenanda Shopping Centre until 2010, when she moved part of the business to her home. “I carried on from home until 2014 and then after that I began Wow 4 U Events, which specialises in JOC (Johannesburg City) events, including parties at venues, festivals and road races, legalising the event to the City. You could say I’m hands on organising events with other stakeholders too.”

In 2009 she became involved with Mondeor Precinct CPF and her passion to assist the community has never faltered. Living in Winchester Hills, Michelle is definitely at the centre of her community and is always ready to rush out and help anyone who needs it. “Community is important to me and keeping people safe is top of the list,” she said.

Michelle is involved with Seniors on the Go and Domestic Watch and is loved by all their members. “I really enjoy these two events and feel I add some positivity with them both.” She regularly meets with SAPS, JMPD, security companies and community and business members and feels if she can help to combat crime, in any way, it’s a bonus! “I want to make the South a safer place to live and work in, so won’t be stopping any time soon,” she laughed. She thinks herself lucky to have lots of dedicated and supportive CPF members, who carry the load when she can’t. “They always do what they have to without me asking, it’s really great.”

Time on her hands

Not that she has much spare time, but she is absolutely dedicated to her family and enjoys spending time with them and her friends. “I love photography as well as scrapbooking. They keep me sane in my hectic life,” she added.

Her absolute passion is helping to find missing persons. “When I see a person, especially a young teen, has gone missing locally, I get involved and assist where I can. It can be heart-breaking, though; although very rewarding if the person is found safe and alive.”

Happy with the path she’s chosen, Michelle is a live wire and always on the go. “As long as I have breath I’ll be who and what I am. There’s no time for sitting around doing nothing. Life is short and I’m here to live.”
