Cable Theft: Residents speak out

Residents speak on cable theft and the inconveniences it comes with.

IN recent weeks rampant cases of cable theft across Johannesburg have left many areas/suburbs without power. The CHRONICLE took to the streets where residents voiced their concerns about the situation.

CARLOS DIOGO: “Cable theft is a huge epidemic across the country. It really causes inconveniences to residents, especially with the power disruptions that follow when cables are stolen. Authorities should look into the situation and bring solutions to how cable theft can be minimised.”
JAN VAN REENEN: “Cable theft issues are something that should be addressed by council, as well as community members because law enforcement agencies can never be everywhere hence getting engaged as a community will help reduce the cases.”
PAT MAPINDWEI: “Cases of cable theft are getting out of hand and not a single day is going by without hearing about cable theft somewhere and we are left in dark. Authorities should quickly intervene to see a way forward and stop this problem.”
CHARLENE PRETORIUS: “Power shortages actually bring families closer together but having power shortages due to cable theft is unacceptable and better security measures should be put in place to put an end to this.”
