GALLERY: Krank’d Up festival raised the roof again

Happy and carefree memories were definitely being made, along with some dangerously fun-looking mosh pits.

THE annual Krank’d Up metal music festival, which took place at the Sundowners venue on September 29, was possibly the loudest party Alberton has seen all year.

Known as the go-to festival for alternative music fans in South Africa, Krank’d Up music festival, presented by Turning Tricks Entertainment, presented another unforgettable show that will be remembered for years to come.

This year, two international bands, US-based Miss May I and UK-based SikTh headlined. Supporting bands included Deity’s Muse, Facing the Gallows, Southern Wild, Truth and its Burden, Only Forever, Dirty Moonshine, L.A Cobra, Bleeding Spawn, Riddlebreak, Ruff Majik, All We’ve Known, Penny Vagrant, Treehouse Burning, KOI, Slippery When Wet, Zephyr Heirs, Last One Alive, Nerve Zero and Defy Theory. It was a metalhead’s mecca.

SIKTH: Mikee Goodman owned the crowd with his metal voice.

Upon entering the event, one could see a lot of people enjoying themselves. The bar was packed and bartenders looked flustered as they tried to fill everyone’s orders, despite Sundowners’ card facilities that gave some problems.

The lines for the bathrooms were almost as long as some of the dudes’ beards. Cigarette smoke filled the air in front of the stage where the bands were performing, turning the indoor venue into a hazy metal party.

A couple of stalls selling energy drinks and alcohol were set up outside. Lots of people gathered around, drinks and cigarettes in hand, dancing, jumping and head-banging to the fast-paced hard-rock and metal music.

POWERFUL: Miss May I gave a very powerful musical performance.

Outside, there were loads more people at the big stage where the international bands were set to play that night. The stage was already occupied, though, and the party was in full swing, indoors and outdoors.

Happy and carefree memories were definitely being made, along with some dangerously fun-looking mosh pits when the international bands arrived on stage.

MISS MAY I: Levi Benton thrilled the crowd with his strong vocals.
