COMMUNITY members were asked the following question: “If you became the president of South Africa, what is the one thing that you would want to change first?” Here is what the people had to say.
ORIGIN MOLOTSI: “The most urgent thing I’d focus on is how to improve our economy. I would start by trying to lower VAT, fuel and food prices.”CAROL SMITH: “I would put all people stealing money from the poor in jail.”JERRY MABOTE: “First thing, I’d take drastic steps toward job creation. There are so many people who must get by in life without any income. South Africa needs more jobs.”CYRIL NIEMANDT: “I’d create more centres that can help with jobs for those who are poor and unemployed. There are hundreds of people living on the streets.”VAN ZYL PRETORIUS: “Free education would be the best thing to work on, I think. It’s a basic human right. If people are too poor to afford education, it will affect the rest of their lives negatively.”MBALI MAHLOBO: “I would increase social grant money and create more jobs.”MARK ANDERSON: “I would make jobs be a voluntary system. You should not be bonded to your work and should not be afraid of being fired if you don’t go.”SPIMPHEWE VILAKAZE: “I would educate and change the opinion of the public. Then I would change the local councillors.
