How’s everyday life affected by the new budgets?

The CHRONICLE asked community members how they think this new budget will affect their everyday life.

BONES MULLER: “The cost of living has basically gone up even more now. We must all work for transport money, because petrol prices increased again. If petrol costs more, taxi fares also go up.”

WITH the president’s recent announcement of South Africa’s new budget, there have been somewhat negative reactions from the public. The CHRONICLE asked community members how they think this new budget will affect their everyday life.

PATRIOT MABENA: “Once again, petrol prices have gone up. This affects us in many ways because as petrol prices go up, everything else goes up too, except people’s income. It’s difficult to get by.”

MANNY NENGUDZA: “I hoped the government would start subsidising companies like the one I work for, but alas they didn’t. I am disappointed, we work so hard just to get by.”

CELESTE LOUW: “I don’t think this new budget will make much of a difference, especially for social services. A bigger budget should have been made for service delivery, such as the police and municipalities.”

TEFO SISENG: “I’m worried about alcohol prices that have gone up. Poor people struggling with alcohol addiction are still going to buy it, even if it means their families must go hungry when grocery money runs out.”
