[GALLERY + VIDEOS]: Mondeor High School’s shining stars

“I'm so proud to see the Southern suburbs represented so fabulously in this year's show with Mondeor High’s Gospel Choir sharing the stage,” said Collett.

MONDEOR High School’s Gospel Choir has been chosen to sing with John Tsenoli, ahead of hundreds of other schools who auditioned for this year’s production of SHINE! 2019 at the Teatro, Montecasino, from September 13 to 15.

On July 31, John came through to the school with Matthew and Gemma Donnelly, producers and founders of Born to Perform and SHINE! along with Collett Dawson, Born to Perform’s publicist. They met up with the learners in the gospel choir and the music centre teacher, Ryan Runganaikulu, who is also the owner of Spades for Kings School of Music and Creativity, in Mondeor.

“The choir have spent a month putting in hours of commitment and rehearsing and they are absolutely thrilled to be one of the chosen schools to perform with John,” said Ryan. “We received the track, The Long Road, from John and since then it’s been practice, practice, practice as they put their own spin on it.”

Said Collett, who lives in Glenvista, “Today we witnessed something so incredibly moving when these soulful teenage voices joined John on the song, blending and harmonising so perfectly with him. It was as if they’ve been singing with him for ages, and not just meeting for the first time. It brought tears of joy and pride to my eyes. I don’t want to give any spoilers so I’ll just say – this number will be worth the ticket price to SHINE! alone! It’s going to blow the roof off The Teatro!”

John began singing when he was seven years old and has sung professionally for about three years. “He has traveled an incredible journey of his own since he joined Stageworx Performing Arts School and Born To Perform four years ago, and it was so heart-warming to watch how he gave so much of himself to these teens who were hanging on his every word as he encouraged and inspired them to follow their dreams, just as he’s doing. The passion and conviction of their performance with John today was just breathtaking,” added Collett.

Be sure to get your tickets now at Computicket to see Born to Perform SHINE! on stage at The Teatro at Montecasino for four shows only from September 13 to September 15.
