[GALLERY + VIDEO]: Paws R US SA in need of donations for animals

THE Simply Festive Charity Fundraiser Event held at Life Grand Café at Mall of the South on December 1 raised much-needed funds for the Paws R Us SA.

The community gathered to enjoy the day with live entertainment from talented singer Nonhlanhla “Noni”Mahlangu from Soul Tone Band and music from DJ D’Angelo.

Delicious food was enjoyed at Life Grand Café, as well as some shopping at the Simply Fresh Organic Market. The children were entertained in the Suzuki Kids Play Zone with Bubble soccer, face painting and canvas art.

Paws R US SA is a companion animal welfare shelter that focuses on the rescue, shelter, networking and re-homing of abandoned, stray and unwanted dogs.

They are a registered non-profit company and a pro-life animal shelter and currently house 230 dogs.

“The festive season is the toughest time of the year in animal welfare. Thousands of animals will be abandoned and dumped over December and January.

“We ask all human beings to make proper arrangements for their pets this holiday season, credible boarding, reliable houses or pet sitters.

“Make sure your pets are micro-chipped and wearing a collar and a tag. And of course #adoptdon’tshop! Bless the lives of furry orphans,” Chantelle Murray, director of Paws R Us SA said.

Paws R Us is just one of many animal shelters that will be in desperate need of donations over the festive season.

Furthermore, research shows that Jack Rusells, Yorkshire Terriers and power breeds are often stolen and sold to dog fighting syndicates.

It is important to keep your dogs inside at night and to check the perimeters of your home and driveway for potential meat or other forms of food that may contain dog poison.

The Vaal Commandos MCC and Soprano bikers donated a huge amount of products for the dogs and led a procession from Mall of the South down Kliprivier Drive and the R59 in aid of spreading awareness of the charity.

Tinned dog food, blankets, pillows, slip leads, dog collars, step-in harnesses, hardy and durable rubber toys, dog biscuits, dog brushes, dish washing liquid, Jik and pine gel, F10 SXXD (1lt bottle), steel horse buckets, hard- bristle brooms, toilet brushes, towels and toiletries for carer staff.
