Informative breakfast for Seniors on the Go

"To us, Julie is Caxton and a part of the South and has been with us, the CPFs and so many other groups for many years, reporting on what we do."

Hosted by CPF Mondeor and organised by Michelle Pelser, the Seniors on the Go group met at Spur Columbine Square on February 18 for an informative meeting and breakfast, sponsored by Sasol Swartgoud and Spur.

Const Elizabeth Mnugni from Mondeor police station gave a presentation on elderly people being abused and informed them what they can do if they are being abused.

“There are forms you can fill in at the police station. Don’t be abused, speak out,” she said.

Michelle spoke about hijacked houses, safety tips on selling of houses, safety on bank cards and pin codes, signing documents without reading them and feeding beggars or hawkers, adding this is not safe to do.

“If you are selling your home make sure you go with an accredited real estate company and if you do want to sell your home privately be very careful who you let in to see the house.

“Don’t just let anyone in who says they are interested in viewing your property.

“Don’t keep all your pin numbers together, this will make it very easy for whoever steals your wallet, purse or handbag to draw out all your money.

“If asked to sign any documents, make sure you read all the small print first. Don’t be conned into signing false documents.

“Be very careful of feeding beggars or hawkers. If someone does come to your gate asking for food and you want to give them something, don’t open the gate, hand them the food through it,” said Michelle.

The seniors enjoyed a delicious breakfast and afterwards, birthday cards and small gifts were handed out to all those members who had or have birthdays from January to March.

“Thank you to Perfect 10 Columbine Square and Sasol Swartgoud for the gifts for the seniors. These very generous gifts really go a long way to making the seniors’ morning special,” added Michelle.

The next Seniors on the Go breakfast is on April 21. For more information, phone Michelle on 084 292 9144.
