Stage 3 load-shedding to start at 17:00

Eskom says Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented for the rest of the week.

As previously announced, Eskom has confirmed that Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented between 17:00 and 22:00 tonight.

According to the power utility, Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented for the rest of the week.

Eskom says there is no need to issue a media statement this morning as load-shedding will go ahead as previously communicated.

Yesterday, Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer said the power utility was likely going to rely heavily on emergency reserves to keep the lights on.

According to Oberholzer, offsite diesel stock levels sat at around 20m litres with 2m litres being burnt per day. In the month of May about 40m litres of diesel had been burnt.

Eskom also warned that load-shedding might be implemented outside of the current evening peak hour times because of the dwindling diesel reserves and an unreliable system.
