Residents angry – still no water

Heritage Day, Wednesday September 24, was spent in the hope their water supply would soon be restored, by many residents’ who live in the South.

LINMEYER – “This is our sixth day without any water and we are really battling now,” said residents in Linmeyer.

Residents in South Hills are also still without water and making use of water tanks being brought into the area.

“We are aware of what Johannesburg Water is saying but to be very honest, we are not happy. If the City can’t get something like this sorted out speedily then God help us if there was a real tragedy,” said a resident of Linmeyer.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, Millicent Kabwe, said, “Johannesburg Water, the City of Johannesburg’s water and sanitation service provider would like to inform residents that most of the water reservoirs and towers are recovering at a good rate. Less than two per cent of residents of the city are still experiencing low water pressures and no water situation.

“Facilities that still have no water are South Hills tower and Rabie Ridge reservoir. The suburbs supplied by the two storage facilities include, Rabie Ridge, Mayibuye, Risana, South Hills, Tulisa Park and surrounding areas.

“We have made temporary provision for the areas that are still affected by way of water tanks. In South Hills we have a stationery tank at the water tower and at 21 Risana Road. We are also giving special attention and priority to hospitals, clinics and schools until the situation improves.

“We would like to plead with residents who do have water to use water sparingly during this period. Thank you for your cooperation.”
