Kibler Park calls for traffic light

Long stretch of road in Kibler Park has been labelled dangerous by motorists

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Impala Road in Kibler Park is known for its busy traffic and vehicle accidents that seem to occur almost monthly, with the worst accident claiming the life of a young man in 2014.

Some residents in the area voiced their concerns on the Kibler Park and Walkerville Facebook page, wondering why there wasn’t a four-way stop on the busy long stretch of road or even a traffic light.

The aim would be to help motorists coming from streets such as Springbok Road joining Impala Road, especially in the mornings. Speeding motorists have free reign and no fear of getting ticket fines as there rarely are traffic officers with speed traps.

Although the speed limit is 60km/h, motorists can be seen driving at a speed of 100km/h and upwards to a speed of 120km/h.

The CHRONICLE contacted JRA Communications Officer Bertha Scheepers, who said: “JRA is committed to ensuring roads are safe, accessible and liveable for our communities, and as such urgent attention will be given to the matter.

“A submission is normally made via the ward councillor or directly to the JRA Traffic Engineering department. We have reported the request to our Traffic Engineering unit who will be undertaking a traffic survey. This will be done as soon as school’s reopened and we will inform you of the results of the survey upon completion.”

Ward 125 Cllr Solly Mogase can be phoned on 011 681 8000 and Ward 125 Public Relations officer Peter Stewart can be phoned on 083 266 3838.
