Customers raised issues such as wanting to know what channels to follow when they want to dispute their bills.

THE City of Johannesburg’s political heads were hard at work on the eve of the 100 Days Progress Report, attending to the queries of ratepayers at Thaba Ya Batswana in Kibler Park.

The event on Wednesday evening, November 30 was attended by the City’s MMC for Finance Dr Rabelani Dagada, MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Clr Anthony Still, Ward 23 Clr Sarah Wissler, City officials and other officials from City Power and Joburg Water.

At least 400 residents came from as far as Aspen Hills, Glenvista, Glenanda, Southgate and Meredale, among others, to attend the event. Customers raised issues such as wanting to know what channels to follow when they want to dispute their bills, how to identify the meter readers who come to read their meters at their properties, smart meters and the escalation process, among other issues.

MMC Dagada said their visit to the South was to demonstrate their plans of making the City a responsive government, responding to the issues of residents quickly.

“You must know that as residents that you are our bosses, that is why we came today to hear your issues and also give you a report back,” said MMC Dagada.

He thanked the residents for continuing to pay their accounts, saying their payments would ensure the City continues to deliver and rolls out more services. He also encouraged residents to work together with their ward councillor when they have queries.

The executive mayor of Johannesburg, Clr Herman Mashaba gave a detailed report of the 100 days of progress in office for his administration on Thursday, December 1.
