SPHELELE Nxele, spokesperson of Ekurhuleni Media, issued the following press release:
“Over the past few months, Ekurhuleni’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) has received much acclaim for hosting other municipalities for benchmarking seminars. On June 23, EThekwini’s MPAC joined Ekurhuleni’s council sitting as observers. They also attended their sister committee’s meeting the following day.
“Instituting stringent controls in our financial affairs and standardising our internal controls are part of the good governance framework. We continue to see a rising interest in other municipalities who are following in our footsteps,” said Clr Sebiloane, Chairperson of MPAC.
MPAC falls within the Legislature and oversees the Municipal Annual Report and Audit. They report on financial statements and make recommendations to the council for consideration and final approval.
“Ekurhuleni’s MPAC is an active committee that takes pride in its work. This is demonstrated by its exemplary positioning – other municipalities continually engage with this committee in order to learn measures of improvement within their structures that can be replicated once they return home.”
