RECENTLY 28 girls from Grace Trinity school had the privilege to travel to Barcelona, Spain, with ten teams from Grade 8 to 11 competing with 3 500 candidates from 37 countries.
The girls debated current issues; wrote essays on challenging topics while studying a detailed curriculum on the theme Entangled World. They chatted about Bitcoin; questioned diplomacy; examined relationships and probed the mechanisms of memory.
Captained by Hemantha Chetty and Kabo Majavu, the teams did extremely well and earned themselves 86 medals at the Global Round. The itinerary also included touristy things such as getting into architecture; tasting new dishes and having total freedom of beautiful Barcelona with a metro card.
Eight of the teams qualified for the Tournament of Champions hosted by Yale University in Connecticut. Then six days in New Haven is where the four teams will compete with teammates from Singapore, Holland, Slovenia and Herzegovina.
The teams will meet with delegates from the Globals held in Kuala Lumpur, Durban and Melbourne.
“Thanks to parents, sponsors and Grace Trinity for affording the girls this opportunity of a lifetime,” said Marlene Gracie, coach, who won coach of the year award at the World Scholar’s Globals in Barcelona.
