WATCH: Mayor Herman Mashaba at the clean-up in Glenanda

It was a great morning with a lively atmosphere and inroads were made to give Glenanda a spruce up.

THE intersection of Vorster and Lois avenues, Glenanda was a hive of activity on May 18, as another A Re Sebetseng clean-up took place.

With key role players in attendance, including the mayor of Johannesburg councillor Herman Mashaba, councillor Ntombi Khumalo (MMC for Corporate and Shared Services), Nicky Vakaloudis (SOJO’s CEO), Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler as well as Miss Earth and Miss Cancer and other community members, the morning was a fantastic success.

After Mashaba spoke to invited guests and community members about the importance of the A Re Sebetseng clean-ups, he said, “I’m prepared to stay till the end of the clean-up. Please join me and let’s make inroads this morning with getting Glenanda and the spruit in shape”.

A Coca-Cola van with a DJ had the crowd buzzing and groups of people walked off in different directions to tackle the pavements and spruit armed with spades, rakes, garbage bags, and gloves. At the end of the morning piles of rubbish could be seen in garbage bags waiting to be picked up by Pikitup.

Vasco Da Gama (Speaker of Council) also did his bit, along with JRA’s (Johannesburg Roads Agency) chairman Sipho Tshabalala and team members, who repainted road markings in the area and the intersection.
