A RESIDENT of Mulbarton, who has been living in the area for the past 20 years, has been appointed as the sixth principal of Dinwiddie Primary School, a public school in Germiston.
Eugene Pretorius began his career in education in 1988.
In 1993, Eugene moved into private education where he occupied the post of head of department for official languages at Royal Queens College in Germiston.
He was appointed acting principal the following year and in January 1995 Eugene was officially appointed as the principal.
In 2000, Royal Queens College amalgamated with Institute Status Acres, with Eugene at the helm.
He resumed his teaching career at Dinwiddie Primary School in 2003, where he taught Grade Six mathematics and natural sciences. In 2006, he was appointed as one of the intersen phase heads of department and in 2011 he was appointed as deputy principal of Dinwiddie Primary School.
Between the years 2012 and 2013 he excelled as a mathematic educator. In 2012, he was chosen to become one of the lead teacher for mathematics, implementing the then new CAPS policy.
Later that year he received an award for excellent teaching practice as a lead teacher at provincial level.
In 2013, Eugene received an award for excellent classroom practice at provincial level.
In April 2019, Gail du Preez retired as the principal of the school and Eugene was appointed in an acting principal capacity.
On December 2, the department officially announced that he has been appointed as principal of Dinwiddie Primary School with effect from January 2020.
