A new home for JSPCA animals
JSPCA has been getting support from the Broader Hindu Community NPO, which took its animals under its care.
Liana Marx from JSPCA said in the last couple of months, they have been getting support from the Broader Hindu Community NPO. Last year, they got in two horses, Aspen the Mare and Chocolate the Stallion.
“They were donated to us as the owner was unable to keep them any longer. Aspen was originally adopted from us a year or so prior as she was a badly abused horse when she came to us. After weeks of work, we were able to home her to a loving home but because of circumstances, the owner was unable to keep her and her companion, Chocolate, any longer,” said Marx.
They had advertised them for adoption, yet no one ever came forward to adopt them. They had numerous responses on Facebook and hundreds of emails but no one came forward.
“That is when Preyalan Pillay and the Broader Hindu Community NPO made contact with us and offered a loving home to both of them. A home inspection was conducted and it passed with flying colours. A few months later, the horses still recognise us when we go visit them. They are extremely happy and could not have asked for a better home,” she said.

The JSPCA had to make a hard decision to home yet two of its farm animals.
Milky (brown and white cow) came to us when she was just a couple of months old. The girl had such a bad start in life and they had to hand feed her every day until she was strong enough to move around on her own.
“In the last six years, she had been with us. She had grown into a big, beautiful girl. About two years ago, we got Bull Bull as we named him. He was abused before he came in. These two have formed such a close bond that Milky considered him as her calf and mothered him through the years. But we came to realise our farmyard was too small for these two big animals to be genuinely happy.”
The Broader Hindu Community again offered to give them a home as they have an exceptionally large property.

“After all the necessary paperwork was done, Milky and Bull Bull went to their new home. We can confidently say they are enjoying themselves. This week, we also placed two donkeys with them. Donkeys that were destined for an unimaginable fate. It is lovely to see them all running towards us when we stop there.
Animals never forget. To see them all running around free and happy is something special. We know we made the right decision,” she said.
The Johannesburg SPCA management and team thanks The Broader Hindu Community NPO and Preyalan Pillay for all the support they have shown towards their society and for providing a safe, happy home for their animals.
