Karate students get 100% pass rate

More than 100 students, from the ages four to 40-years-old participated in the club gradings held on June 12.

Stringent Covid-19 protocols did not deter the dedicated students of JKA South Bassonia and Alberton JKA from their journey to one day wear a black belt.

More than 100 students, from the ages four to 40-years-old participated in the club gradings held on June 12.

“Despite the trying times they all excelled with a 100% pass rate,” said senior instructor Karyn Smith (5th Dan).

The students train at their respective dojos in New Redruth and Bassonia both of which are run by Karyn with senior instructor Bruce Smith (7th Dan).

Classes are held Monday to Thursdays and there are also dedicated dinky classes for the very young ones and even a Ninja Mommies class too.

The Ninja Mommies Chantelle Potgieter, Mammutle Hutamo and Nayna Mistry.

The two clubs boast more than 50 years of history, producing many national and international champions.

The focus of the clubs is on the advancement and development of all their students with a low instructor/student ratio they have an impressive 13 qualified instructors between the two dojos.
