Epic Foundation appeals for assistance to change lives for Mandela Day
Epic Foundation appeals for assistance from the community to lend a helping hand this Mandela Day.
Epic Foundation extends a request to the community to assist with donations of much-needed items that will help make a difference to others this Mandela Day.
This is to enable the NPO to support survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) through its projects and initiatives.
Alta McMaster of Epic Foundation said: “Living in a time where there is a pandemic is certainly a challenge, adding to our existing challenge in South Africa of GBV. Donors have options to donate to us.”
• Option 1 – Notebooks
“Use any creative idea from Pinterest and make up small notebooks for us to be used in our comfort packs. It must be an A5 or smaller with about 10 pages each and a cover,” she said.
• Option 2 – Comfort pack for women
Place in a drawstring bag the following items:
Bottled water, deodorant, face cloth, hair comb or brush, hair elastics and clips, lip balm, underwear, Vaseline, sanitary towels and shampoo. This should also include a small notebook and pen, soap, sweets, a small pack of tissues, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
• Option 3 – Comfort pack for children
Place in a drawstring bag items such as bottled water or cooldrink, brown paper bag, chips or snack, colouring-in book and crayons, face cloth and soap.
Lip balm, a small notebook and pen, Vaseline, a soft toy, surgical gloves, sweets and underwear should also be packed. This should also include wet wipes, plasters and a small pack of tissues, toothbrush and toothpaste.
• Option 4 – Individual packs
Place in a ziplock bag any of the following item combinations for inclusion in our comfort packs.
“This can include two hair elastics and two hair clips, a set of surgical gloves, four plasters and one paper bag, six individually wrapped sweets. Six colouring-in pages and four crayons, underwear with size written on the pack in permanent marker should also be added,” said McMaster.
• Option 5 – Donations
“We have set up a sewing station to make our own drawstring bags for. We are in need of fabric, preferably no small off-cuts, ribbons, cotton, pins and sewing essentials. Separate donations of drawstring bags, 35x46cm, bought or handmade.”
