Two Ophirton copper cable thieves sentenced to 15 years in prison

Convictions for possession of stolen copper cable.

On November 6 in 2019 at 06:30, members from Booysens Community Service Centre received a call from the station to attend possible theft taking place in Ophirton, where the copper cable was been stolen.

Members rushed to the address and upon arrival noticed five suspects running away. Two suspects were caught and placed under arrest.

The docket was given to Booysens SAPS WO Fanie van Staden to investigate.

On September 21, the suspects appeared in court and were found guilty. Both suspects were sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said let this be a warning that if you are caught with stolen copper, you will pay the price.

“The management of Booysens SAPS wished to thank WO Fanie van Staden for his dedication in the fight against crime,” she said.
