Joburg South councillors thank their community for voting
Although the turnout was not great on November 1, people of the South came out to cast their votes.
Compared to 2016 local government in the City of Johannesburg, the previous top three parties did not fare well, with the ANC down by 10.9%, DA down by 12.3% and EFF down by 0.5%.
The new kid on the block, Action SA, got 16% of the votes, while ANC and DA received 33.6% and 26.1% respectively.
What Joburg South councillors had to say:
Ward 125 Matsobane Sekhu
“The results are in and the DA has retained Ward 125. I am truly humbled by the fact that the community has shown their faith in me. I look forward to working with everyone to resolve the challenges we face. I would also like to thank my predecessor and mentor councillor Peter Stewart for the work he has done these past five years and, hopefully, I can hit the ground running now that you have laid great foundations in this ward. I look forward to serving the residents of Ward 125.”
Ward 124 Mongameli Mnyameni
“Greetings to all people who have shown trust and hope in the ANC and to me. Thanks again for the great dedication you have shown to the ANC and me by committing yourself by voting for it again. Yes, it was very clear that you did that against all odds.
For that, the ancestors of the ANC will never forget you. I, therefore, pledge that I’ll serve everyone with respect and humility. I’ll sacrifice everything to make sure the residents get all the best service delivery they deserve. I appeal to everyone to work with me beke le beke to advance the national democratic revolution to better our community. I appeal to all of us to be responsible citizens and work together so we can achieve more.”
Ward 57 Faeeza Chame
“I want to express my feeling of pride in working with the community and would also like to extend my gratitude towards you for appreciating my efforts in serving the residents of Ward 57 in an efficient and transparent way. I am so grateful to you for honouring my efforts and offering me a chance to serve as your voice in council. Your appreciation has increased my self-confidence and I assure I will work harder to come up to your expectations.”
Ward 56 Michael Crichton
The results are in and I am proud to announce I have retained Ward 56 as the DA candidate. I want to thank the voters for placing their faith in me again and I am humbled by your support. The past five years have certainly been a roller-coaster ride, with some successes along the way.
However, I am aware that the ward certainly has its issues, but I am committed to continue working with the community and to continue fighting to resolve these issues. I look forward to serving all of you again.”
Ward 55 Rashieda Landis
“I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to go out and vote. I’m humbled. We are here to serve one and all. We need to work together to make our ward a better place to live. I am open to suggestions.”
Ward 54 Stuart Marais
“I thank all the people who came out and voted for me. I know in some places it was difficult. I appreciate the people who came to speak and thank me on the day. I am grateful for everybody who made their mark and I’m proud of my citizens of Ward 54. And thank you for bringing me back to the seat. I’m going to apply myself in the same vigour and with the same passion, also hope to make the difference in your lives and get the things done.”
Ward 23 Tyrell Meyers
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Ward 23 for their overwhelming endorsement and confidence they have shown in electing me and the DA to serve them for this new term of office. The victory belongs to our community. They are the ones that must benefit and reap a better ward. We will continue to fight for service delivery to make our community a clean, safe and prosperous one. I thank you once more.”
