Carols by Candlelight hosted in aid of Tutela Alberton

The community came together to attend NG Kerk South Crest’s Carols by Candlelight on the evening of December 3.

It was a blissful evening as the Dutch Reformed Church, NG Kerk South Crest, hosted its annual Carols by Candlelight event on December 3.

The event was well attended and everyone had a wonderful a time. The children enjoyed face painting, a water slide and jumping castles.

The event, according to Rev Lorinda Schoonwinkel, was also hosted as part of their stationery drive, and proceeds from the event went to Tutela Alberton.

“Santa arrived on his pimped-out Dodge bakkie accompanied by the Grinch and spoiled each child with sweets and toys. The little ones enjoyed chasing the Grinch and helping Santa keep his goodies safe. We then lit a candle on the evening and enjoyed music, sing along to beloved favourite Christmas songs,” she said.

Grinch said the event was about the church and the South Crest community, as well as promoting a sense of community.

“The church does a lot of underlying selfless acts of assisting other charities and doing drives. We help the church and the church can help far more people in the community. We have also reached out to communities, and to us it’s all about helping out without attaching a label to everything,” he said.
