Beware of bogus cops wearing police masks
Report any bogus cops to your nearest police station.
Johannesburg Central SAPS warns the community not to fall victim to bogus cops wearing a police mask committing a crime.
The station is investigating several cases of impersonation of officers by people wearing a mask with a police badge.
Safety tips for community
Johannesburg Central SAPS acting communications officer Const Constance Lelimo said for the community to be sure, ask the police officer for an appointment certificate and to check if it is original.
“A real police officer is not afraid to produce his/her appointment certificate to public members. Police officers are not allowed to wear a mask with a police badge in civilian clothes. Members of the community are not supposed to be in possession of any SAPS items like a uniform,” she said.
