WATCH: MMC pleased with work done at Reuven
MMC for housing Mlungisi Mabaso is pleased with the progress at Reuven Retirement Village.
City of Johannesburg MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso and his team on January 26 visited Reuven Retirement Village to assess the work done since his last visit.
He was pleased to see the progress, although there are still some problems that need to be attended to.
“I appreciate the work that has been done here. The last time we were here, I almost lost hope that we will ever be able to get things right in the department. We have attended to almost 99% of all the issues that you asked about when we were here last time.
“It’s a pity that other officials from other regions are not here to see what work we have done. This shows a clear demonstration of commitment to work.
Thank you to Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni for keeping us on our toes and making sure we attend to all service delivery queries.
“Let’s keep it like this because even the mayor is worried about the conditions of our senior citizens’ villages and complaints that we receive daily. However, if we continue at this pace, I think we will eliminate all those frustrations,” explained Mabaso.
He was also taken aback by the petition signed by the residents.
“In my almost 22 months in the office, it is the first time I receive a petition of thank you. We always receive petitions where people express their grievances. This is the first, so thank you to the people of Reuven,” he said.
Caroline Ngoasheng, the chairperson for the Reuven committee, thanked the City of Johannesburg for the work that has been done.
“We especially thank Mabaso for assisting with these projects, including the rebuilding of the boundary wall and fitting a new electronic gate, tiling and painting the units and cutting the grass,” she said.
Mnyameni was accompanied by MP Judith Tshabalala and PCO Thamsanqa Nkosi.
“We ask the caretakers and the managers of these villages to help the senior citizens. They mustn’t shout at them, but help them whenever there are problems. We need to protect them. The pending issues need to be attended to, especially the partial sinking of the hall’s walls. We thank the office of the MMC for coming here,” said Mnyameni.
Greg Mackett, the manager at the village, said there are two contractors on site fixing most of the problems.
“We also have various NGOs who are helping the elders. But we do have other problems like cutting the trees. We have about 67 trees that need pruning. In the hall there is also a structural problem that needs attending to,” he said.
