City Power urges load reduction as Reuven SDC faces 322 open outage calls
Power system remains constrained as teams work to repair a cable fault at Wemmer Substation and clear a backlog of outage calls.
City Power has warned customers of Joburg south that the power system remains constrained.
Residents are urged to reduce electricity consumption to prevent overload, as teams work to clear a backlog of outages in the Reuven Service Delivery Centre area.
In an outage update issued on June 2, City Power Communications said the Reuven SDC currently has 322 open calls from customers reporting supply issues.
The main active outage is at Wemmer Substation, where a cable fault has left parts of The Hill without electricity.
City Power’s test branch is still on site, with the exact point of the fault being located. Once the fault is pinpointed, the contractor will proceed with repairs.
“The outage is due to a cable fault, and it affects customers in parts of The Hill,” said City Power Spokesperson Iaac Mangena.
“The estimated time for full restoration will be shared via City Power official channels once it has been established.”
The utility warned that with the system under pressure, high usage could trigger additional trips.
Customers are urged to switch off non-essential appliances and use electricity sparingly until stability returns.
City Power will provide further updates as repair teams make progress at Wemmer Substation.
