Residents of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns took part in having their say during a recently held Integrated Development Plan virtual public meeting on January 25.
Ward 38 councillor Malcolm Maifala-Masebe circulated a survey to the community where they gave their input.
He said through the survey it was revealed that 56.5% of the participants said resurfacing of roads is important, while 39.9% of the participants said they wanted street cameras to be installed to help fight crime.
“With the inputs received, it was important to keep in consideration the previous IDP priority list. The meeting agreed that the upgrading of the sewer system remains a high priority while the reconstruction of Poppy Street should not be neglected,” said Maifala-Masebe.
Residents who joined on zoom and Facebook took part in the poll to have a say on a request to have ablution facilities at Kalkoentjie Park. They also requested a youth entrepreneurship and jobs centre for the ward and street cameras.
Following an interaction with the community, the IDP priority list for Brackenhurst and Brackendowns is as follows:
• Water sewer system upgrade for Brackenhurst and Brackendowns
• Reconstruction and resurfacing of Poppy Street
• Request for street cameras for monitoring crime and traffic obstruction
• Request for youth entrepreneurship and jobs centre
• Request for ablution facilities at Kallkoentjie Park
In terms of a request falling outside the responsibility of local government, Maifala-Masebe continues to request the building of a new police station as part of the IDP.
