Mall at Newmarket spreads joy at My Huis

Mall at Newmarket made a generous donation to children of the My Huis child and youth care facility on February 19.

Children of the My Huis child and youth care facility in Verwoerd Park were pampered by Mall at Newmarket on February 19.

Each child from the safe haven was excited to receive all of the toiletries needed for the month. Children and their guardians were also spoiled with vouchers to enjoy a meal as a family.

The centre is a place of safety for abused and abandoned children.

According to Nico van der Westhuizen of the centre, they accommodate seven children.

“All our children are in a safe place where we can work together to pick up that child’s family again. Sometimes, it can take longer until the family picks up again. It could even take until they are 18 years old. If they want to go and study when they turn 18, they are allowed to stay in the house until they are 21,” he said.

He extended his gratitude to Mall at Newmarket for their donation, which he said will put a smile on the children’s faces.

He also thanked Food Lover’s Market at the mall for donating an R1 500 voucher for every month during 2021.

“We picked anything from vegetables, fruits to cooldrinks, which all helped a lot. We appreciate what they did for us, this was a kind gesture. If the children have something donated to them, it could be anything, it’s always a nice thing. They love it,” said van der Westhuizen.

Mall at Newmarket marketing manager Marli Swart said: “This was a fun activation and good start of getting into the community. We also wanted to raise visibility for them. We have been made aware that Alberton stands together, and we encourage them to lend a helping hand.”
