Residents in Region F unhappy with service delivery

The residents for Region F has called for a variety of service delivery issues to be addressed during the recent community-based planning meeting held on Saturday, February 26.

Issues raised by the public included the water issues faced at the Forest Hill tower, power outages, upgrading of community facilities, upgrading of roads, vandalism of traffic lights and potholes.

Pieter Van Tonder, a resident of ward 23, said: “There is a lot of new housing developments in the area and no infrastructure such as upgrading or building of substations, water reservoirs, and roads. We are always told that departments have challenges. If money is allocated and departments’ challenges remain, will money not be wasted?”

Another resident of ward 54, Johnathan Ryan said: “Local SMMEs are not involved in projects happening in the area. Why are they not prioritised?

“There is no transparency in the carrying out of projects and the level of unemployment has multiplied. Contractors are appointed for projects and there is no monitoring of these projects.”

The objections of these sessions is to receive input from residents on future developments in the areas for inclusion in the development of the 2022 – 2027 integrated development plan (IDP)

Residents used the session to raise the issues that they face daily in the areas.

Irene Mafune, regional director for Region F said: “The City has prioritised service delivery by ensuring that inspectors and teams are on the ground to monitor and inspect service delivery issues to resolve such.

“Ward-based walkabouts and tours are part of the responsive service delivery intervention put in place. I implored residents to make contributions to capital projects needed in the community before the closing date of March 5.”

Some of the projects implemented from the 2017-2021 IDP is the upgrade of the M2 motorway bridge, upgrading of Rotunda Park, upgrading of Pioneer Park, South Hills Housing project and the Crown Gardens water towers just to name a few.

Some of the future building projects include the construction of clinics in South Hills and Turffontein, Gandhi Precintic East Development and the Portplein Park.

There is still time to submit any ideas. You can send your comment to cbpinputs@joburg.org.za, cbpcomments@joburg.org.za, online comments on www.joburg.org.za or handwritten submissions in the drop off boxes at the regional offices.

Closing date for submissions is March 5.
