Hillbillies take the field against Mondeor for a good cause

The spectators were treated to some great rugby and excellent entertainment.

Hillbillies played Mondeor Vets at Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre on July 30 to help raise funds for SPCA.

The day was organised by Malcom Lind as ‘one last game’ for some of the players.

A team of 27 players gathered, with some players last playing 20 years ago, but all players gave their all and it showed on the field.

Even with Hillbillies winning the match, Mondeor won the heart of all the supporters that came out to support the day.

Nayree Lane, organiser of the event said: “The event was a huge success, raising R20 000 for the charity organisations: Union Rugby Club, Cansa and CHOC, adding over 300kg of pet food and blankets for the Germiston and Alberton SPCAs.

Topping the day with a Cansa Shavathon, live entertainment from Stewart Irving and Wendy Niehaus as well a jumping castle for the kids, this will undoubtedly become an event to look forward to annually.”

Lane further said: “Thank you, Union Rugby Club, for hosting the day and to the sponsors: Amandla Training Academy, Big Save (Pty) Ltd, CardCo SA, Hello Logo, Motor Holding Sensations (Pty) Ltd & Top Crop.”
