Alberton High Badminton players off to Cape Town

An Alberton High School trio will be representing Southern Gauteng Badminton Association in Cape Town for the U17s.

Alberton High School’s Melinda Jaskolka, Kirsty Correia and Kiara Jaskolka, part of the school’s Badminton team, will be off to Cape Town on October 1.

Melinda is in Grade 10 while Kirsty is in Grade Eight, and Kiara in Grade Nine.

The badminton players recently returned from Durban after a successful SA Schools Badminton Championships in the past month.

Earlier this year, Melinda together with Kiara represented the U19s in Bloemfontein, while Kirsty represented the U15s in Benoni.

“This is a very big accomplishment. I also feel that playing for the school’s team is a big success, especially at our ages. We’re still seen as juniors and I feel that it’s very big to represent our school so well,” said Melinda.

Kirsty told the Alberton Record she was honoured and proud of her achievement and that she has grown tremendously in the sport.

Kiara reiterated that it was a great experience to represent the junior team.

The trio echoed that they were excited and looking forward to representing Southern Gauteng Badminton Association in Cape Town from October 1 to 7.
