The CPF has noted a recent increase in ATM bombings in the southern part of the Johannesburg area.
In the early hours on October 5, there were two explosions in the Eikenhoff area when criminals blew up an ATM at the Shell garage near the Lido Hotel.
“This is not an isolated incident as there have been other attempts in the vicinity,” said Mondeor CPF chairperson, Mike Fontes.
“We urge all petrol stations and shopping centres with ATMs in the area to step up security overnight, as well as SAPS and the CPF.
“We cannot rule out the possibility of further attempts and that these crimes may be linked to Zama Zama activity in the area,” said Fontes.
