Brackendowns fighter (16) shines in the ring, paving way for opportunities
Violet Noyce wowed spectators in her recent bout at the Alberton Boxing Club on March 11 and was subsequently selected to become part of the Gauteng Boxing Academy.
Alberton Boxing Club’s Violet Noyce comes from a family of exceptional fighters and she is determined to set a precedence.
The 16-year-old novice boxer from Brackendowns loves her sport and has shown much growth over the recent months. She is born to former SA boxing champ Peter Mashamaite and Gaynor Noyce, who did white-collar boxing.
In her recent bout, her remarkable performance in the ring saw her selected to be part of the Gauteng Boxing Academy.
“I won my second fight this past Saturday. They then took me around and told my opponent and me that we were chosen for the Gauteng Boxing Academy. I was not sure at first because I had finished a fight and a lot was happening around me at the time,” explained Violet.
She said this will be a great way of exploring the wonderful opportunities that will come with boxing.
Violet joined boxing mid-last year and she said it has been a very fun and lovely experience.
“It’s been very good in keeping discipline in academics and it helps with being humble in life. Those considering joining the sport, should put their heart into it and not do it to impress others. Boxing shouldn’t be all about beating people up. The sport helps with maintaining one’s health and discipline, they should look at it that way,” she explained.
Coach Pieter Strydom said being selected at the Gauteng Boxing Academy will mean more opportunities for the youngster which will see her grow in the sport.
“It’s a great opportunity for her to go further in boxing. She is going to get more exposure against other provinces and other countries. The academic team will be going against other contenders on April 1 against Nambia and the fight will be hosted at Alberton Boxing Club. She might also get a fight on the day,” he said.
