Raising funds for karate dream
Sahara Peel's parents are raising funds for her to go to Scotland in July.
Sahara Peel is a free-spirited and determined 11-year-old girl who has a passion for karate.
This Albertonian has recently been selected to represent South Africa to compete in the 11th World Union of Karate-do Federation’s (WUKF) World Championships in Scotland from July 10 to 19.
“Being selected to represent your country is something that people only dream about and today she made that dream come true,” said her mother Chantal.
Funds are now being raised for her to make this dream of hers a reality.
An ambitious fighter
“From the day she was born, she had a fighting personality and a competitive side to her,” said Chantal.

Sahara discovered the world of karate four years ago and she is part of the Cobras Shotokan Karate Club.
“My passion began when my best friend introduced me to karate as she was doing karate. I decided to try it out,” said Sahara.
Karate is Sahara’s way of expressing herself and also her escape on bad days.
“The sport increases confidence and teaches self-defence. Just like exercise strengthens your body, challenges strengthen your mind and you get to do both with karate.
“I am in love with kata, which is a Japanese word describing detailed patterns of movements,” said Sahara.
The challenge for her is that she is very small in size and most of the time she is fighting bigger opponents.
Sahara has worked extremely hard to get where she is today in the sport.

Raising funds“When Sahara started competing in karate we always said to her that if she was ever selected to go overseas to compete we as her parents would make a plan to make it happen. Please help us make this dream come true. We cannot afford to do it on our own so need all the support we can get,” said her parents.
The tour price, including airfares and accommodation, is R33 000 per person and excludes the 50€, which is R969.57, entry fee per category, tracksuit, lunch and spending money.
“I want to make my family proud,” she said.
Her parents have created a Back-a-Buddy page to raise funds for Sahara’s trip.
All funds raised will go towards the travelling and accommodation expenses.
Anyone who can help can donate via her back-a-buddy page.
