AACL Johannesburg primary school poster and poetry competition 2025

Do you love animals? Support the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) Johannesburg’s annual school poster and poetry competition.
All Gauteng primary school learners are reminded to show their support for the welfare of animals by entering the competition.
Categories and prizes
Category 1 Art: Grade One and Two – first place R2 000
Category 2 Art: Grade Three, Four and Five – first place R2 000
Category 3 Art: Grade Six and Seven – first place R2 000
Category 4 Poetry: Grade Five, Six and Seven – first place R2 000
There are also many merit prizes to be won from the following sponsors: Animaltalk Magazine, Acrobranch, Cartoon Candy, Dean’s Stationers, Lifestyle Pet Hyper, Lillian Gray Art Studio, gg’s Café, Capmor Stationers, Facades Hair Studio and Hero in the Hood.
How to enter
Create a fun picture or compose a sweet poem that shows how we can be kind and caring to animals and make their lives better.
A good poster or poem grabs attention and carries a clear message. Remember to add a catchy title or slogan to make your entry stand out.
Posters: Use any materials you like, such as paint or pencil, on A4 or A3 paper. Posters must not be folded or framed. Have fun!

Poems: Your poem can be in any style, in any of the 11 official languages, and no longer than 16 lines. Copyright laws apply, so make sure it is your own work. Email entries to educate@aacl-jhbnb.co.za
Include the following with your entry:
• Your name and surname
• Your age
• Entry category (1/2/3/4) and your school grade
• School’s name and your parent(s)’ or the school’s telephone number
Learners may enter a maximum of two pictures or poems. Voluntary donations are welcome and will help AACL Johannesburg continue its work of caring for and protecting animals. For banking details, please email educate@aacl-jhbnb.co.za
Closing date: October 31.
Top finalists’ and winners’ posters will be exhibited and announced on the AACL Johannesburg Facebook page.
Winners will also be contacted individually no later than November/December.
