Security officer killed while responding to Mayfield Park ATM bombing

Mayfield Park ATM bombing leaves one person dead, another person shot and money missing.

In the early hours of June 18, an ATM was bombed at an Engen garage in Mayfield Park, near Mondeor. One security officer died, another was shot, and money went missing during the incident.

Fox Security attended the scene where one security guard was shot in his shoulder and another shot and killed in the line of duty. The robbers took an undisclosed amount of money and a firearm belonging to one guard.

The head of operations at Fox Security, Donovan du Toit, confirmed a group of fifteen people was suspected of being involved, but no arrests have been made.

Colonel Noxolo Kweza of the Gauteng SAPS outlined the case opened by the SAPS. “I can confirm that police have opened a murder and firearm robbery case, following an ATM bombing in Mayfieldpark,” Kweza said.

“Mondeor Police are appealing to communities for assistance locating and arresting the suspects,” she continued.
