Mondeor rape case involving school worker delayed
Magistrate postpones case for the fifth time.
A 31-year-old man, employed as a maintenance worker at Dalmondeor Primary School in Mondeor, was arrested in connection with allegations of rape involving a Grade Two learner at the school.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 21 on the school’s grounds.
The case resumed at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on September 4.
The case was postponed in August because the investigating officer (IO) was unable to assess the victim and compile an assessment report, as the victim could not be located.
Magistrate Hassina Habib began by inquiring whether the IO had completed the assessment report.
The prosecuting attorney, Mr Israel, explained that the victim had been located, but the assessment was not yet complete.
“The IO must give us the date of the appointment of when he will assess the victim,” said Israel. He continued and asked whether the case could be postponed, as the assessment needed to be completed.
Habib explained that she would need to know how long to postpone the case for.
“I need to know the date of when the assessment will take place, the IO needs to inform me or the prosecution. I need to know this so I know how long to postpone the case for,” said Habib.
The case was postponed for one week until the date when the assessment of the victim will take place, which is provided by the IO to the court.
“The case is postponed until September 11, so the IO can give me a date when the assessment will be completed,” said Habib.
