Magistrate postpones Mondeor rape case for the sixth time

The case is postponed to October 15, pending the victim assessment report.

A 31-year-old man, employed as a maintenance worker at Dalmondeor Primary School in Mondeor, was arrested in connection with allegations of rape involving a Grade Two learner at the school.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 21 on the school grounds.

The case resumed at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on September 11.

The matter had already been postponed in August and again on September 8 because the investigating officer (IO) was unable to assess the victim and compile an assessment report, as the victim could not be located.

Before the case was called, Tebogo Mokgadi, SGB chairperson at Dalmondeor Primary School, hurled insults at the court, claiming they did not know what they were doing.

He went on to criticise the media present in court, saying they had nothing better to do than cover the case.

Magistrate Mashitse demanded order in the court, and Mokgadi then ceased his outburst.

The victim assessment report was still outstanding.

“The victim report is not completed as the IO could not complete the assessment because the victim is writing exams,” said prosecuting attorney Mr Israel.

“Let us then postpone once again and hopefully by then an assessment report will be compiled by the IO,” said Mashitse.

“The case is postponed to October 15, pending the victim assessment report. Bail is extended for the accused,” he continued.
