Dalmondeor school rape case struck off court roll
The victim and her mother fail to appear, halting proceedings against the accused school maintenance worker.
A male maintenance worker at Dalmondeor Primary School in Mondeor was arrested on rape allegations involving a Grade Two learner.
The incident allegedly occurred on May 21 on the school’s grounds.
The case resumed at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on October 29 after being postponed in August and again on September 8, when the investigating officer (IO) was unable to assess the victim or compile a full report because she was writing exams.
Following further delays over the victim assessment report, the victim and her mother then failed to appear in court.
Magistrate Habib requested the report, and prosecuting attorney Israel said it was still incomplete.
Habib stood the matter down to allow the IO to contact the victim and her mother and find a way forward. However, both remained unreachable.
The magistrate was forced to strike the case from the court roll until the victim and her family come forward to proceed with the matter.
