Community acts against suspected child molestation in South Hills

Local councillor steps in to prevent mob justice as police take the suspect into protection following allegations of inappropriate touching.

A resident of Swinburn Street, South Hills, on January 18, reported seeing a man in his 30s coming out of a toilet with a four-year-old girl who was not his.

The child allegedly told her mother that the man had touched her inappropriately.

The community reacted swiftly, confronting the man before local councillor Faeeza Chame arrived.

Chame intervened to prevent further harm and called Moffatview SAPS.

The suspect was taken under police protection to South Rand Hospital.

Chame commended the community for looking out for one another and emphasised the importance of protecting children.

“Our children need to be protected against rapists, who are destroying the future of our young girls. Please report any crimes to the SAPS or someone you trust.

“It’s time we all stand together and remove the bad elements from our community,” Chame said.
