Roads closed in Ormonde after deadly shooting

Motorists urged to avoid Crownwood Road and surrounding routes as police investigate a fatal shooting involving a white Toyota Fortuner.

Motorists are advised to avoid Crownwood Road and Rente Street in Ormonde, which have been completely closed to traffic following a fatal shooting incident.

The closure comes after reports that the driver of a white bulletproof Toyota Fortuner was shot and killed in broad daylight.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the primary scene was a fatal shooting. A secondary scene further along the route has one fatality and one critically injured person receiving medical treatment.

Traffic impact and alternative routes

According to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla, motorists should expect heavy delays on all routes approaching the Ormonde area, particularly the M1 Highway.

“Crownwood Road is cordoned off between Rente Street and the surrounding blocks,” said Fihla.

He added that traffic is being diverted by officers on the ground, but secondary routes are already experiencing high volumes.

“Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternative routes to reach their destinations.”

Fihla recommended that motorists use Xavier Street or the M1 Highway via the Booysens or Gold Reef City exits to bypass the affected intersections.

Ongoing investigation

“For public safety and to preserve the integrity of the scene, the roadway will remain inaccessible until further notice,” Fihla added.

Authorities remain on the scene as investigations into the shooting continue.
