UPDATE: Case opened after girl (11) dies in Sky City accident
The cause of the tragic accident that claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl in Sky City is under investigation by the police.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Kliprivier police station after a minor was fatally struck by a car in the Sky City area on Friday morning.
The victim, an 11-year-old child, was initially reported as a 10-year-old. The Alberton Record apologises for this error and regrets any confusion it may have caused.
Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi of the Kliprivier SAPS confirmed that police responded to an accident report at approximately 07:50 on K91 Road near Sky City.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the body of a minor already covered with a fleece blanket. The vehicle involved in the incident was still at the scene,” said Ndhambi.
The police have urged the community and motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic laws.
“Children must be advised to only play in safe and designated areas,” adds Ndhambi.
According to reports, the child was possibly knocked over by a white Toyota Tazz, but the exact cause of the accident remains unclear.
“I saw the child lying on the road as I was heading to the mall and saw a white Toyota Tazz parked near where the child was. There were no ambulances or police cars. The child’s lifeless body was just lying on the road.”
“It was just after 08:00, and it looked like the accident had happened minutes before I passed,” said a witness who drove past the scene.
