WATCH: Naturena’s Marcus Molemane takes flight in Kites on Showmax

The dynamic actor leads the charge in the thrilling one-night adventure, premiering April 25.

Marcus Molemane (27) from Naturena will feature on Showmax in April in the dramatic comedy Kites, directed by first-time director Menzi Mzimela.

Molemane plays the role of Neo (one of the DJ pair, Links and Neo). The film is a collaboration between Showmax, Urban Brew, Weldun Media, and the Joburg Film Festival.

It was one of eight feature films in the seventh annual Joburg Film Festival on March 15.

“I’m pleased to inform you that the cinema sold out, and the crowd’s reaction to the film was enough to let us know we did a stellar job. It will go live on Showmax on April 25.

“I star alongside Craig Nobela (Nikiwe), Paballo Mavundla (House of Zwide), Aphiwe Mkefe (The Queenstown Kings), Nyaniso Dzedze, Zimkitha Letlotlo, Pakamisa Zwedala and Wanda Zuma,” he said.

An award-winning journey

Molemane’s journey so far comprises nine years of international work, dedication to telling authentic stories, and seven short films, two of which won awards.

Short film number one, Moya, won best short film at the South African Film & Television Awards 14, and the second film, Lebone, won the award for best director at the Ekurhuleni Film Festival Awards. The film was directed by Pfeiffer Kenny.

The dream of acting internationally is getting closer for Molemane, “I’ve worked on an international limited series I can’t mention yet because it’s still in the works. But the dream is close to becoming a manifestation. Something is cooking,” he said.

He played Tshiamo Bapela in the last season of SABC 3’s telenovela The Estate, in which he was best friends with the late comedian and actor Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, who played Masokisi.

Molemane said young people should expect something wild in the upcoming movie, “People should expect young, fresh talent and chaos, a lot of chaos.

“The film’s premise takes place in one night, so yeah, it will be wild. Think The Hangover, one of those one-night films, and if you know and love Soundest Sundays, you will love this film.”

Molemane enjoyed working with his previous directors and would like to work with them again. He is also keen to work with Thabang Moleya, Mandla Dube and Mandla N.
