The Gauteng-based Blue Suede Heaven Elvis Appreciation Group is a small group of people passionate about supporting and keeping alive the legacy of Elvis Presley in SA.

“We are recognised by Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis, a recognition that has to be applied for and earned annually, based on positive contributions to local communities or individuals in need,” explained Lainy Hendry, the president of the group.

They recently hosted their fundraiser at the Reading Country Club, where club members entertained them with their rendition of Saturday at the Movies, a variety show by Elvis and his Friends.

Funds from the fundraiser went to the Alberton SPCA during its open day.

About the club

“Many of our members have visited Graceland, some more than once and some during an official Elvis Week, which culminates on August 16 every year after the previous night’s Annual Candlelight Vigil, when the gates stay open until every last person wanting to walk up the driveway to the gravesite has done so and left.

“August 16 is a special day for fans all around the world, as they celebrate the life of Elvis Presley, not only the performer, but the man behind that image, a flawed human being for sure, like the rest of us, but a man with a loving and generous heart that still beats for millions of fans around the world, 48 years after his passing. Isn’t that incredible?” Hendry said.
