Community rallies behind Paige at heartfelt fundraiser golf day
Dozens of golfers, local businesses and supporters came together at Reading Golf Club to raise funds for specialised equipment to improve the quality of life of 10-year-old Paige, who lives with cerebral palsy.
The community recently came together in a spirit of generosity and compassion for Paige’s Golf Day Fundraiser, held at Reading Golf Club, Alberton.
Paige’s family organised the event to raise much-needed funds for the 10-year-old’s specialised equipment and ongoing care.
Born on February 15, 2015, Paige entered the world facing extraordinary challenges.
Delivered via emergency C-section and weighing only 1.6kg, she was diagnosed shortly after birth with a rare condition called oesophageal atresia. In this defect, the oesophagus does not form properly.
Complications later led to sepsis in her brain, resulting in cerebral palsy.
Despite her condition, Paige is a bright and determined young girl who inspires everyone around her. She attends Optim-Ed Learning Centre in Brackendowns, where she continues to make progress with the support of her dedicated family and teachers.
Her father, Jonathan Bedworth, shared that caring for Paige requires constant attention and specialised equipment.

“Because of her condition, Paige needs round-the-clock care,” he explained. “The last fundraiser golf day helped raise money for a wheelchair and eye gaze technology. This year, we aimed to raise funds for a new wheelchair, walker, and specialised bathing equipment. These items would make Paige’s life easier and give her a bit more independence.”
The golf day drew over 96 players, with additional guests joining for the prize-giving and dinner. Jonathan described the day as an incredible success.
He said: “Everything came together beautifully, from the weather to the turnout, and it was extraordinary to see so many people come together in support of Paige. The event exceeded our expectations in every way.”
One of the most emotional parts of the day came during the speeches, when the family shared how much the community’s support meant to them. “Seeing the emotion and support from everyone was incredibly moving,” said Jonathan.

The fundraiser was made possible through the generosity of local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers. The family expressed deep gratitude to Za Prop, Waxit Bedfordview, Apex Golf, Sebenza Diesel Engineering Services, Keg on the Run Mobile Bar, Serenity Dental Studio, VW The Glen, and Teamsportsza for sponsoring holes on the course.
Special thanks were also extended to Colleen and Wanda, affectionately known as angel helpers, whose tireless efforts contributed significantly to the event’s success. The family also thanked Reading Country Club for hosting, Dewcare for a thoughtful care package and all the prize donors and supporters who contributed in various ways.
“It’s difficult to express just how much this support means to us,” Jonathan said. “The kindness and generosity shown by the community have been overwhelming. It’s heartwarming to know that so many people care and are willing to stand with us and it gives our family tremendous strength and hope.”
Paige’s stepmother, Lee, emphasised the importance of raising awareness about Paige’s condition.

“Events like this are not just about fundraising,” she explained. “They help people understand what children like Paige go through, and how much difference the right equipment and support can make. It’s about giving her and others like her the best possible quality of life.”
The family also extended special thanks to Eric, a friend who wrote to Hot Cares on 102.7 FM. The radio station has generously covered the full cost of Paige’s new specialised wheelchair, which is currently in progress.
“We are so grateful,” said Jonathan. “This allowed us to focus on obtaining Paige’s walker, which should arrive by mid-December, along with other basic needs.”
With the success of this year’s fundraiser, Paige’s family is considering making the golf day an annual event. “It’s a wonderful way to bring people together, raise awareness, and continue supporting Paige’s needs, along with other children in similar situations,” said Jonathan and Lee.
