Fr Deneys Williamson appointed as Marist Brothers Linmeyer chaplain

Father Deneys will take up his new role in 2026. His journey from teacher to theologian reflects a lifelong commitment to faith and service.

It gives the school great pleasure to announce that Father Deneys Williamson has been appointed as the new school chaplain, effective from January 1, 2026.

Father Deneys is already well known within the school community, as he currently serves as parish priest of St John Paul II in Linmeyer.

Born in Johannesburg in 1986 into a Catholic family, Father Deneys is the eldest of three siblings and was educated at St David’s Marist Inanda. After obtaining a degree in liberal arts and teaching at St Benedict’s College, he felt called by God to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.

He entered the seminary and completed his theological studies in Rome, graduating with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Theology. Ordained in 2016, he first served as curate at St John the Apostle Catholic Church in Florida before being appointed Parish Priest of St John Paul II.

In addition to his parish duties, Father Deneys has been involved in the beatification and canonisation process of Danny and Domitilla Hyams, who may become South Africa’s first married saints. He also serves as a lecturer in Theology at the National Seminary.

Marketing manager Tracy Edward said: “The school community warmly welcomes Father Deneys to Marist Brothers Linmeyer and looks forward to his ministry among us.”
