Residents step up with overwhelming support for Epic Foundation
Thousands of comfort packs and hundreds of matric outfits were donated through the Caxton Cares drive.
It is not often that one can truly say they are at a loss for words.
However, when the Comaro Chronicle reached out to our communities and asked for donations for the Epic Foundation, the response was overwhelming.
We asked for donations of comfort packs for victims of abuse and rape, including women, men and children, under our Caxton Cares banner. These could be dropped off at the Meyersdal SPAR.
We further reached out to our community to assist the foundation’s Fairy Godmother project, where they ask for clothing to make it possible for less privileged girls and boys to attend their matric farewell parties in style. They assisted 554 children with this effort.
And again, the response left everyone in awe. Elegant dresses, suits, shoes, jewellery and handbags were delivered to the foundation.
Alta McMaster from the Epic Foundation was overjoyed when the comfort packs were delivered to the foundation and indicated that they had distributed 5 700 of these for the year, with an estimate that 6 500 comfort packs will go out before the end of November.
“Today, we stand humble before our communities with grateful hearts. Thank you for every donation. We truly live and work in communities where people have the hearts of selfless givers. Our thanks also go to the Meyersdal SPAR for making the store available to collect items to include in the comfort packs,” said Carina van der Walt, the editor of the Comaro Chronicle.
