Tears for Chris van Gent as Bellavista says goodbye

The family is appealing for support as Chris’s brother and his loyal dog, Prince, face hardship following his passing.

The family and community of Bellavista mourn the passing of Chris van Gent on October 25 due to cancer.

Many will remember him as he used to sit with his ‘cool’ dog, Prince, opposite KFC at the corner of the Rifle Range and Bellavista roads in Haddon.

He was cremated on November 19. The Southern Courier spoke to his brother, Johan, and cousin, Vic Richards. While they miss him dearly, they also ask the community to help where they can.

“We’ve just cremated him. Johan and Prince are now living with us here in Krugersdorp. Chris used to take care of Johan since he couldn’t walk, he needed a hip replacement. Now that he is gone we are struggling; we ask for donations from the public to help both Johan and Prince,” noted Vic.

Chris died without fulfilling his dream to build a church for people in the area. That was his wish in 2023.
Johan may be contacted on 081 055 5731.
