Mondeor Primary showcases culture and creativity at festival
The festival brought the community together in a powerful celebration of shared heritage.
Mondeor Primary School held a colourful heritage celebration on its sports fields, welcoming learners, parents and community members to the Roots and Rhymes: Celebrating Our Heritage, One Beat at a Time festival.
The event aimed to honour South Africa’s rich and diverse heritage by blending traditional and modern culture in a fun and lively way.

Principal TF Tlhavani said the festival was more than just a school event.
“We wanted to create a space where our community could come together and celebrate who we are,” he explained.

“Roots and Rhymes reminds us that our traditions are important, but they also live alongside our new ideas and creativity.”

Visitors enjoyed a variety of stalls and activities throughout the day. A traditional craft market showcased handmade jewellery, clothing and crafts from local artisans.

A food section offered favourite South African dishes, including braai, bunny chow and malva pudding.

The heritage exhibition displayed artefacts and stories about the country’s history and culture. Community groups also had the chance to perform and share their talents on the main stage, adding music, dance and poetry to the day’s excitement.

Principal Tlhavani said he was proud of how the event brought people together.

“Seeing our learners, families and neighbours celebrating side by side shows the power of unity,” he said. “This festival is a reminder that our heritage lives in all of us.”

With its mix of tradition and community spirit, the Roots and Rhymes festival proved to be an unforgettable day for everyone at Mondeor Primary School.
