Community shows up in numbers for AACL-JHB Black Friday pet initiative

Despite the rain, 220 cats and dogs received affordable sterilisation and vaccinations at the much-anticipated annual event.

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg’s (AACL-JHB) Black Friday sterilisation and vaccination initiative again demonstrated its dedication to community welfare on November 29.

Now one of the organisation’s most anticipated events, the 2025 edition reflected growth, unity and compassion for the furry friends of Johannesburg south.

Despite steady rainfall throughout the day, community members arrived in high spirits, chatting, laughing and queueing with their pets, with the line at one point stretching up Alice Street in Regents Park.

Their enthusiasm underscored the strong and enduring partnership between the AACL-JHB and the community it serves.

This year, the AACL-JHB continued to promote responsible pet ownership by offering subsidised sterilisation and vaccination packages at just R200 for cats and R300 for dogs, inclusive of all services.

They attended to 220 animals, including dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, on the day.

AACL-JHB marketing manager Carren Nickloes shared, “This impactful initiative was made possible through the support of our donors, whose contributions ensure that essential veterinary care remains accessible to pet owners from all walks of life.”

The AACL-JHB’s commitment to animal welfare plays a pivotal role in the success of programmes like this one.
“We are grateful to every community member who brought their pets to us,” said Nickloes.

“It is a privilege to serve our community in this way.”
