Update: WATCH: JRA repairs potholes on Rand Airport Road, full resurfacing expected in March

Partial pothole repairs by JRA bring relief for Rand Airport Road motorists, but councillor says complete resurfacing is needed to fix the road.

Progress has been made on Rand Airport Road following concerns previously raised about its deteriorating condition.

As reported in our article published on December 20, 2025, during the Operation Restore activation in Ward 57, MMC for Transport, Clr Kenny Kunene acknowledged that the road was in a poor condition and confirmed that efforts were underway to secure budget allocation for repairs.

Ward 57 Councillor Faeeza Chame has now confirmed that Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has repaired some of the significant potholes on the left-hand side of the road heading towards Germiston.

“I am pleased to provide an update on Rand Airport Road, where some of the significant potholes on the left side heading towards Germiston have been fixed.

“However, much work remains to be done on the side heading towards Tulisa Park and Elandspark. Complete road resurfacing will commence soon,” she said.

Chame added that she will continue advocating for the full resurfacing of the road to ensure motorists’ safety.
In a video update to residents, she said that while pothole patching has begun, the community is calling for a full resurfacing rather than temporary fixes.

“They have started fixing potholes, but we don’t want potholes to be fixed. We want the whole road to be resurfaced to make our motorists safe,” she said.

According to Chame, resurfacing of the entire road is expected to begin in the first week of March, with funding reportedly already available.

“Money has been made available. This is all because residents kept me on my toes. I will keep coming back and giving updates until this road is completely resurfaced,” she said.

Despite the recent repairs, sections of the road remain in a poor condition, particularly on the side heading towards Tulisa Park and Elandspark.

Residents and commuters have long expressed frustration over the state of the road, citing safety concerns and vehicle damage.

The anticipated resurfacing project is expected to bring long-term relief to motorists who use the busy route daily.
Further updates are expected as work progresses.
